Why a Layer 1?

Vitalik Buterin initially envisioned implementing smart contracts on Bitcoin. However, this concept was ultimately dismissed by Bitcoin's core developers. In hindsight, this was fortuitous because Ethereum's design required a more integratedapproach to support smart contracts. Similarly, our initial plan for UniAgent was to develop it as a Layer 2 solution, but wesoon recognized that such an approach was insufficient. We discovered that toeffectively support AI applications and agents on Web3, the entire blockchaininfrastructure needed to be custom-built and optimized. For instance, creating a robust on-chain AI application like ChatGPT or managing a large-scale AI agent network of 10,000 agents isn't feasible with current blockchain designs, as they were not originally intended for such use cases. Effective solutions demand purpose-built tools, and AI applications are no exception.
